If you want to feel old, consider that this weekend is the 45th anniversary of The Partridge Family hitting the airwaves. 45 years? David Cassidy is 65. Wow.
Songs from the show are guilty pleasures for those of us who grew up during that time. Who didn’t know the songs and hum regardless of whether you thought the show was stupid or not. “I Woke Up in Love This Morning,” “I Think I Love You,” “Echo Valley 2-6809.” and “I Can Feel Your Heartbeat.”
I listen to a lot of books on CD while I drive to work and last summer I listened to Shirley Jones’ autobiography. The book was pretty good although she’s a bit of a kook. I’d forgotten she was a Broadway and movie star long before the TV show. There was a section about the show and how it was working with her stepson David Cassidy. David had a hard time both being on the show and performing in concerts, which was his true interest. Plus he struggled with people believing his character was who he really was and the show ended after four years.
Much to the joy of the rest of my family, I’ve stumbled upon the 45th anniversary marathon on TV today. Sadly, I won’t be able to commit myself to watching it all but that won’t stop me from humming the songs the rest of the weekend. 🙂
Of course, I have Partridge Family songs on my IPod. Here’s one of the most popular ones.
